Fresh from completing another stand out run of Australian headline performances, ZIGGY ALBERTS returns today with the official music video for his evocative single, ‘Feeling Blue’.
The release of ‘Feeling Blue’ adds to an already heady and beautiful roll out of Alberts’ stellar seventh studio album, New Love. New Love has brought Ziggy Alberts a new wave of personal and creative fulfilment, while also landing as one of his most successful projects to date.
Peaking at #2 on the ARIA Australian Albums chart, New Love remained in the Top 10 for four weeks post-release. Upon release, the album went to #1 on the Australian Independent Record Label Association’s 100% Independent Albums chart, while also nabbing the #3 and #18 positions on the ARIA Vinyl Album and Top 50 Album charts respectively.
The project represents a continued sense of evolution in Alberts’ songwriting and the impact of New Love has shown that the love for this brand of storytelling has been reciprocated by his strong fanbase right throughout the country.
With ‘Feeling Blue’, Alberts presents one of New Love’s most tender moments.
A song that delves into the honesty and vulnerability of Alberts’ songwriting technique, ‘Feeling Blue’ is a culmination of a period of time spent navigating uncertain and challenging emotional terrain. As Alberts explains of the song, “I started writing this song in June 2023 while I was in Europe on break in between tour legs. I remember working on it a lot in Ericeira, Portugal, and Biarritz, France. The opening line says it all: ‘I’m not convinced in all the ways I’ve been living now.’
It’s about being really unhappy – and if you didn’t listen to the lyrics carefully, you maybe wouldn’t know, because the song is really upbeat and positive in every other aspect. That contrast really reflects where I was at the time – a paradox of emotions / in the balance of opposites. In many ways, it’s one of the most honest songs I’ve written – just calling out my thoughts and feelings as they were. I’m thankful to have come through some of the personal challenges I was facing then.”
For the music video, filmmaker Wilzen Crawford captured the action of a surf trip out in Cloudbreak, Fiji – a rare moment of downtime for Alberts in between tours and the roll out of the New Love album. As the musician remembers, the trip was a last-minute decision, but wound up being just the remedy needed; a trip that resulted in him catching “the biggest wave of my life”, before heading back home.
“I was feeling that same balance of opposites that I write about in the song – feeling so out of my depth but then absolutely revelling in the stoke that was out in the water. The video captures the essence of the ultimate surf adventure – which is exactly what it was. I hope it inspires people to book the trips, chase the experiences, and make the most of what this life has to offer.” ZIGGY ALBERTS
Since its release in February, New Love has accrued over 6.2 million streams, while the single ‘New Love’ has also been nominated for a 2025 APRA Music Award, in the ‘Most Performed Blues & Roots’ category.
Reflecting on the release of the album, Alberts says, “It’s so nice to finally have New Love out in the world and to see how fans are connecting with it – especially at the shows, so soon after its release. This is how I wanted it to be, I wrote and produced this album to be played live, so getting to perform these songs and watch them come to life on stage and connect with people has been really special.”
With the Australian leg of the New Love World tour selling over 28,000 tickets, sold out audiences have been able to witness the depths of this album, and how it has continued to drive Alberts as a performer. His latest tour of his home country took Alberts to Australia’s regional centres and venues, bolstering the connection between him and his fans in different pockets of the country; it’s success repositioning Alberts as one of Australia’s most dynamic touring artists, with thousands of tickets selling in each town.
From here, he continues to spread the good messages of his music through tour dates in North America, Canada and South America, before taking the tour to Europe and the UK, where it will culminate with a career-defining show at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
