Ruby Cannon releases bewitching new track ‘Love Machine’

Melbourne artist Ruby Cannon has just released a bewitching indie rock track titled ‘Love Machine’. Inspired by the sounds of 1960s and 70s rock n’ roll, Ruby incorporates the gritty feminine energy of artists like Patti Smith, the modern-psychedelic flair of others like The Dandy Warhols, and gives it all a beautiful 2020’s twist in a retro style similar to local favourites Nice Biscuit and Sunfruits.

“‘Love Machine’ was the last song we wrote on the upcoming album but it quickly became our favourite because of how much more high energy it is compared to what we usually create. The song really plays into our influences such as The Dandy Warhols and Tess Parks, and with Vyv (guitarist) producing it, you can actually hear each of our personalities all the way through it.”  RUBY CANNON

Brimming with classic rock n’ roll style guitar riffs, drums thumping like a steady heartbeat, and Ruby’s enchanting vocals, honey-sweet in their gently seductive drawl, ‘Love Machine’ is a glittering glam-rock love song that so perfectly captures the feelings of its intended themes, in its sounds as well as just its lyrics. On the track’s thematic nature, Ruby has said:

“‘Love Machine’ is actually the first love song I’ve ever written. It’s about letting your barriers down with someone and wanting to give them all of the love you have. It’s kind of like saying ‘I’m at your service’ but in a more sexy way!”  RUBY CANNON

Having previously graced the stage of Laneway Festival in 2023 (alongside acts like Phoebe Bridgers and HAIM), and landing the opening slot for Velvet Trip on tour just earlier this year, Ruby and her band, conjointly known as Ruby and The Cannons, are certainly cementing themselves as ones to watch in the indie rock scene. With 4.3K monthly listeners on Spotify and over 105K streams on previous single ‘On The Boulevard’ alone, new release ‘Love Machine’ is sure to continue the momentum, and is set to turn up the heat in the phenomenal Ruby Cannon’s musical kitchen.
