Melbourne project Ruby and The Cannons today reveals a brand new single titled ‘Annabella’.
A witchy, ethereal rock song reminiscent of the works of 1970s icons such as Stevie Nicks and Patti Smith, ‘Annabella’ is the first official release by Ruby and The Cannons as a group project, seeing frontwoman and singer-songwriter Ruby Cannon joined by Vyv Lyde (Lead guitar), Alex Orr (Bass) and Elyza Day (Backing Vocals).
A musical portrait of the mysterious Annabella, the song offers a glimpse into the troubled titular character, whose ‘world is dead’, and whose ‘mind’s been running around’. Expanding on the persona and all that she conveys, Ruby expressed:
“As a band, this song is held closest to our hearts. It was born out of pure love and magic, it’s so special to us. I think Annabella’s character represents a phase in life that a lot of people have been through, or maybe a phase you have watched a friend go through. She’s a representation of total heartbreak.” RUBY CANNON
Recorded in a home studio and mixed / mastered by the band’s very own Vyv Lyde, ‘Annabella’ was a DIY pursuit down to its core.
A labour of love, with every inch of it crafted and molded by those who know it best, the single oozes with effortless charm, and is unmistakably authentic to the sound and energy of Ruby and The Cannons as a whole.
“Writing Annabella was so much fun because we weren’t trying to achieve anything, it just came out of us. One night we were laying on Alex’s living room floor and just after midnight, the character of Annabella was born.” RUBY CANNON
Following the single release, Ruby and The Cannons will be playing an intimate and incredible live show at Melbourne venue Death or Glory, with support from Supa Lucia.

Despite having only begun releasing music within the past two years, Ruby and her band have already made strides in the scene– exhibited by the likes of previous single ‘On The Boulevard’ (released under ‘Ruby Cannon’) currently sitting at nearly 130K streams on Spotify alone.
The band have previously played Laneway Festival in 2023 (alongside acts such as Phoebe Bridgers and HAIM), as well as having supported crowd favourites Velvet Trip on tour in 2024.
With ‘Annabella’ out for all to enjoy, and plenty more new music on the horizon, Ruby and The Cannons are locked and loaded, and they’re aiming for the sky.
