Majak Door introduce a bright era with new album 'Fantasy Camp'

With FANTASY CAMP, Melbourne indie favourites MAJAK DOOR have come out swinging. On their second studio album, the five-piece have taken the chemistry and essence that has made them one of the East Coast’s most exciting groups, and elevated it across eleven tracks of pure joy.

Featuring singles ‘Feel Good Man’, ‘Jasmine’, ‘Borderline’ and latest track, ‘Don’t Let Me Down Easy’, Fantasy Camp is a strong step forward for the band, who have enjoyed continued clarity in their musical vision in recent years. Recorded at the band’s home studio in Melbourne, Fantasy Camp saw Majak Door recruit the talented Nolan Thies (Blonde Redhead, Deerhunter) on engineering, adding extra flair to the final product.

Already, fans were given insight into the growth of the band on the previously released tracks; Fantasy Campthrives in its exploration of new sounds, confidently veering into realms of indie-rock and alt music that feels just as homely.

The energy spurring tracks like ‘Call It What You Want’ and ‘I Got News For You’ highlights the rich, melodic depth of the record; ‘Head Crash’ and ‘Ridin’ High’ stand out as Fantasy Camp highlights for their rhythmic and laidback flavour.

As Majak Door describes, the album was a chance for them to discover the music that truly satisfies them.

“[It] feels like we’re slowly refining our sound, we’re still in that process to be honest - finding out what we want to play and what brings the most enjoyment to us. That’s part of the love of it all really; seeing what happens when we approach writing in different ways, maybe starting rhythmically first, or starting off with a key progression and following the scent. [It] helps us learn and grow as musicians.

We have been sitting on this album for a bit now, and have a whole other collection of tracks we’ve been writing since this album's conception, always wanting to try new things. We’re really keen to get these tracks out and keep the wheels moving with more releases.” MAJAK DOOR

Alongside the release of ‘Fantasy Camp’Majak Door have also announced their national headline tour in support of the album. Starting in Meanjin in August, the band will meander down the East Coast, with stops in Eora, Yuin, Ngambri, Wadawurrung Tarntanya, before finishing with 2 x hometown shows at the Bergy Bandroom in Naarm. They will have special guests joining them at each show, with those to be announced as the tour nears.

When the Majak Door’s self-titled debut album dropped in 2021, it was a triumph for the Melbourne group, who had emerged out of lockdown ready to build upon the momentum their earliest releases had put into motion.

It had been evident early on that this was a band who knew the power in bringing the live energy into a studio environment; Majak Door and now, Fantasy Camp, demonstrates the band’s ability to weave that kinetic vibe into a cohesive and mature sound on record.

The band’s brand of surf-rock and indie music has garnered a strong fan base around Australia, with Fantasy Camp adding to an already strong body of work comprising (now) two studio records and two EPs.

Staking a claim as one of Australia’s hardest touring young groups in the last few years, Majak Door have racked up a roster of tour achievements that have included sharing stages with the likes of WAVVES, TEENAGE DADS, DICE, OLD MERVS and more.

They’ve also seen support for single ‘Don’t Let Me Down Easy’ via triple j & ABC News Breakfast. beehive has been so excited for the release of this record, and have been so proud to work with Majak Door on their music publicity; servicing the music via editorial music PR and radio plugging!
