Hannah Stow returns with heartbreaking new indie-pop track 'Dawson Road'

Inspired by her childhood and the selfless sacrifices made by her parents, WA’s Hannah Stow has today returned with her second single of 2024, the poignant and moving track ‘Dawson Road’. The moving indie-pop release delves into the bittersweet realization of growing older,  understanding the sacrifices made by one’s parents.

Pulling sonic influences from Sam Fender, ‘Dawson Road’ marks a reflective departure from her previous work. Known for her acoustic and alt-pop sounds, Stow’s new single leans into a more introspective and mature theme.

A standout moment in the track is a voicemail from Stow’s father, seamlessly integrated before the final chorus. “When our parents pass away, a voicemail or a video is often the only way we can hear their voice again. I wanted to immortalize that sentiment in the song,” Stow explained.

“I wrote this with a very “Sam Fender” style of writing. Very specific yet still relatable. It was a sad realization that whilst I’m getting older  my parents are getting old. We take for granted all the simplicities we have as children."

"When we get older we realize the gravity of what our parents had to go without just so that we could thrive. I lost my grandparents at a young age and “Dawson Road” was where I spent most of my childhood. The voicemail right before the last chorus was from my Dad.”

With ‘Dawson Road’ one of the key singles off of her forthcoming ‘Sidelined’ EP, Hannah will be launching the EP with a live performance at Perth’s Milk Bar. Hannah Stow’s performances are renowned for being energetic, vulnerable and a little bit rogue. She will be joined on the night by locals Newport, Ria Mehra $layz.

In the past, this WA alt-pop icon has seen plenty of support from the likes of triple j and triple j Unearthed, with airplay for previous tracks ‘Tell Him ‘Bout Us’, ‘I Loved You First’ & ‘Even Divide’.

In the wake of an exciting 2023 where she shared the stage with rapper 360, as well as embarked up on her own headline Australian tour, Stow is set for yet another incredible year, kicking off with an absolute bang in the form of this stunning new single.

With 67.6K followers on TikTok and over 2.5 million all-time streams on Spotify, the only way is up for Hannah Stow.
